This is the desert version of the distinctive insignia of the 2nd Armored Division. It is designed from the triangular coat-of-arms of the American World War II Tank Corps. The tank track represents mobility and armor protection, the gun denotes firepower and the lightening symbolizes speed and shock action. The Arabic number '2' in the apex of the triangle indicates the Second Armor Division and the nickname of the division, 'Hell on Wheels', emblazoned under the triangle, was coined by then Brigadier General George Patton when he said the division would be 'hell on wheels' when it met the enemy.
