This is the desert version of the distinctive design of the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 416th Engineer Command. It simulates a castle turret suggestive of the Corps of Engineers insignia, while the billets and turret allude to the unit's mission of coordinating activities of engineering construction and related work. The insignia was approved for the 416th Engineer Command on April 1, 1969.
